Acid Modification and Calcium Supplement With Great Success

★ More than half of national farmland requires acid modification

From early 1980s till now, average PH value for all soil types in China has decreased by 0.13-0.80. Professor ZHANG Fusuo from China Agricultural University holds that it will usually take hundreds of thousands of years to realize this large-scale decrease in soil pH value in natural conditions.

More than half of China's farmland has different degrees of acidification phenomenon and most of the pH values <5.5, more pH values <5.0, or even as low as 4.5, and so soil acidification is becoming an obstacle to agricultural production.

In the 14 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities) of South China, the proportion of pH<6.5 (weak acid) in the soil is expanded from 52% to 65% in the past 30 years, and pH<5.5 (acidity) is expanded from 20% to 40%, and pH<4.5 (strong acidity) is expanded from 1% to 4%.

★ Immediate Improvement of soil acidification in high yield fruit orchard

High fruit yield area is the most serious area for solid acidification. Take Shandong province Jiaodong orchard as an example, strong acidic and acidic soils account for 76.5% of total orchard areas. Plus the orchards with weak acidic soil, Jiaodong acidic orchards account for 93.4% of total orchards, so the improvement and maintenance of soil pH values is one of the important work of the soil management of local orchards.
